Donna Hicks Spencer filed to run for her sixth term as Catawba County Register of Deeds today.

Spencer has served the citizens of Catawba county since December 6, 2004. Her many accomplishments include the utilization of modern technology to streamline services, preservation of old records, and making services and information accessible and customer-friendly.

Spencer stated “I’ve established a ‘Continuity of Operations Plan so our office may keep operating in case of a cyber-attack or natural disaster.” Spencer says she will continue to make the office convenient and easy to use as she has from her first day on the job. Spencer said “I’m also working to add passport agency status to our office to help our citizens.”

Donna Hicks Spencer lives in Conover and is married and the mother of triplet sons. She is an active member of Highland United Methodist Church.

Accomplishments

  • Strengthened security by implementing a new backup and disaster recovery process to better protect Catawba County's history and records
  • Implemented a user-friendly online system connecting the GIS office with Register of Deeds real estate documents
  • Fought for and began identity theft protection by redacting social security and driver's license numbers on documents dating back to 1935
  • Improved customer service by implementing online requests for vital records and electronic recording of real estate documents
